Central Park Tic-Tac-Toe | Color Dare #303

SUNBURST CARD

Summer is the time for games. Today I'm playing a little crafty tic-tac-toe! It's been YEARS since I've participated in this fun challenge...thanks to the encouragement from my friend & fellow CTMH consultant, Tracey Pierce, I'm back on the bandwagon. I {heart} challenges because they are such a fun way to get motivated & think outside of the box!! You can find more info on the color dare here.

If I'm going to be honest, this challenge submission was created by "accident" -- a very happy accident :) I was showing my friends how to use scraps after making the Cheers to You card kit; which features the Central Park papers. We had a bunch of triangle shaped scraps, which immediately made me think of the popular Sunburst cards. You basically, take your triangle pieces & arrange them on your card base to make a sunburst! How fun is that?!

Through the years, I've created many of these Sunburst cards...but by using a current paper it gives it a fresh, new look. I used primarily Pacifica, Poppy & Lemon colors. But there is some Bashful in the confetti pattern paper...so I'm counting the diagonal for my tic-tac-toe.

If you love these vibrant colors, you might want to stock up - they'll all be retiring after August 31, except Lemon! In addition, the Central Park papers will also be retiring next month.

I used Archival Black ink for my sentiment, so I could add our watercolors to highlight the it.  The archival ink doesn't bleed when you add watercolor, markers or shimmer which allows you to add pops of color to your artwork.

I hope this card adds a little sunshine to your day! Please visit my website for more info on the products I used.

Birthday Time

This month's stamp of the month is going to be your go-to stamp for all things birthday. It's got so many fun images for birthday celebrations of every age, as well as components for invitations.  I wish I would've had more time to create with it...but that will have to wait :(

In the meantime, I created this quick side step card (easier than it looks, for sure!) for a special birthday coming up soon. You can find the instructions here.

I used the lovely Chelsea Gardens paper; get this packet while supplies last...it's only available thru March! The black chipboard Chelsea Gardens complements added the perfect POP to my card.

The Cricut Artistry cartridge worked great for all my cut images.

Sunny Thoughts

This month's stamp exudes spring. It's been pretty cold & dreary here lately, so I couldn't wait to bring a little sunshine in my craft room as I designed these cards. I decided to try a monochromatic card this month; I've seen many consultants do it & think it looks fabulous! But never tried it myself. I used a gate fold card, which worked really well with my design & is very easy.

You simply cut a piece of cardstock 4 1/4 x 8 1/2. And then score it at 2 1/8 & 6 3/8. You can find the full tutorial here.

I chose bright & vibrant colors from the Adventure palette; Pansy, Pacifica & Raspberry. I used the versatile Basics Fundamentals paper for the backgrounds. The final touches were a little bit of Silver Glitter paper & Clear Sparkles to add just the right amount of bling. I can't wait to send these sunny birthday greetings out!

Through the Year

I'm so excited about this month's stamp...but not for the reason you may think! I have to admit, I had a difficult time coming up with an idea for a card using this set, but thanks to some inspiration from Michele, the ideas began to flow.

When I realized I could use my new Basic Tags thin cuts, it all started to come together quickly.

sotm, ctmh, papercrafting, handmade cards, christmas

I used the 2 inch tag for the Merriest Wishes & the 1½ inch tags for the little icons.
And I used my journaling pen to finish up all the edges around the tags.

If you haven't tried our thin cuts, this one is the perfect "starter" set. It comes with 4 sizes: 2½", 2", 1½", 1".

Christmas Tunes

It's beginning to look...dare I say it?! It's hard to believe it's already October. The days are getting shorter, here in the Black Hills. And Christmas decor is starting to make it's appearance in all the retail stores. Personally, I hate the way retailers rush the seasons. But there is some validity to getting a head start on your holiday projects -- like Christmas cards!

I've been making handmade Christmas cards since I became a Close To My Heart consultant, eight years ago. And it's one of my favorite things to do. This stamp set features lyrics from a few classic Christmas songs. I used Rocking Around the Christmas Tree for this rustic, log cabin card.

I used our NEW You Are Here Cricut cartridge (have you seen this set?) to create the cozy log cabin. I added some shimmer on the cabin with our clear shimmer brush. The made the stars on the tree twinkle with some Bitty Bling.

I cut a tiny (1 1/2) wreath using the Flower Market cartridge; I think it adds just the right touch to my cabin :)

Feel So Blessed

Living a grateful life is something that I try to practice daily. But as we come into fall & the season of Thanksgiving, gratitude seems to be front & center everyone's minds. This stamp has all the sentiments you need to express your gratitude in cards, scrapbook layouts, thanksgiving table decor & more!

I got the inspiration for this double z-fold card from fellow consultant, Laura Ryan. I used our new Basics Fundamentals pattern paper - don't you love it? "Grateful" is stamped in the new Charcoal ink. The Basics color paletten (our neutrals) was totally revamped this year - you can check out the ten new colors here. These are just a few of the MANY new products that launched last month in our Annual Inspirations catalog.

For the inside of the card, I used a floral cluster & "thank you" sentiment from the From the Heart stamp set, which is this month's National Stamping Month special.

Have you noticed that feathers are all rage? My friend & fellow consultant, Tracey Pierce, created this amazing card for our SOTM swap. It's my favorite - possibly, because she used Eggplant cardstock!
